2016 winners

Best Performing Institution in Transport: Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA)
Best Head of Department in Transport: Sylvia Siyo, Transnet National Ports Authority (Durban, South Africa)
"It was a humbling experience, not only to win, but just being nominated. Firstly the women in the same category; I have great respect for them and their achievements in their own right. For me this award means recognition, validation and achievement and thankful that I won."
Best Innovation Partnership in Service Delivery (Project): Transnet Freight Rail (Maria Mzimela)
"A big thank you to those who nominated me. This is a big accolade for me as an individual, for Transnet in its continuous drive to deliver freight reliably and for all the women in Africa, especially those that are passionate about the transport industry and spend sleepless nights to ensure that we co-operatively transform the industry to grow our country's economy. This award encourages me to do more and confirms that I am on the right path". - Maria Mzimela
Best Port Operator or Terminal in Africa: DCG - DSM Corridor Group
Personally it means for me recognisition of the hard work we have put in on last 12 years. I feel in Tanzania DCG's performance is ignored and this international recognisition makes me so proud of all of us. Furthermore, this kind of award means recognistion of women in male dominated industry, where we are often belittled. This is a step forward to equal playfield, where professionalism is the keyword, and hopefully encourages ladies to carry on their duties keeping their heads high, regardless the possible harrasment and the glassroof encountered. When I came back to office, our ladies had organised a cake and I was given a " kitenge", traditional Tanzanian cloth, presented as gesture of high respect, with songs and some speeches. We work as team, and we all have a role to play, and together it becomes the efficient network making the difference. - Mari Pennanen
Best Skills Contributor: Khomotjo Mphahlele, Transnet Maritime School of Excellence (South Africa)
"I have to thank your organization for these events and for the recognition that I received. This will go a long way for me personally and for women who are out there doing their best work in the transport industry, particularly the maritime sector. Despite strides being made by the IMO to get more women at sea, we still form only 2% of the world's work force at sea. Dalai Lama said "If you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito in the room". This award has woken me up. I have work to do."
